Ellie & Sam | Port Douglas Wedding, Ceremony Rex Smeal Park

Ellie & Sam escaped the bitterly cold weather in Victoria and invited 90 of their friends and family for their destination wedding in Port Douglas. Sounds like a pretty good excuse for a holiday and to celebrate with all their loved ones in tropical North Queensland. Ellie & Sam continued to explore the Daintree after their wedding and chilled out on Fitzroy Island for the Honeymoon. The night before their flight back home to Victoria and 2 weeks since their wedding, I was able to grab a beer with them at Hemingways in Cairns and personally deliver their wedding package.

This wedding had zero stress. It was all about celebrating with friends, having a good time and partying hard. It got to a point where we celebrated a little too hard and I ended up being covered in champagne. The ceremony had a nice personal twist with the bridal-party telling stories and hosting the exchange of rings. The petal throw at the end of the ceremony was an all-time favourite. I’ve never seen such excitement from a couple when walking back down the aisle…. it was perfection!

The bride and bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done in a villa at Niramaya. This place is beautiful - it has some Bali vibes and is just a pleasure to photograph. The ceremony was held in Rex Smeal Park, surrounded by palm trees and with a rainforest and ocean backdrop. After the ceremony guests walked to The Court House Pub and I chilled with the bridal-party at the park with an esky full of drinks and food. We smashed out the group photos and a few bottles of champagne.

Let’s talk about the reception… It was a standup style of reception with couches to relax on, canapés being served and an open bar. I had never felt the wooden floorboards at the Sugar Wharf rock so hard! It was pure energy on the dance floor. At one point they were both carried around on the shoulders of their friends rocking out to Florence and the Machine. At my clock-off time, I packed my cameras away, was shouted a beer and danced the Nutbush.
